Tech News: Week 3, May 2021

Hi. Guess what, tech news is back! This is post 2 of a weekly series covering all kinds of news in the tech and IT industry. Trust me, you don't want to sleep 'cause this is one long post.

Crypto Currency - Tesla's announcement:

In the past February, Elon Musk had tweeted that Tesla would accept payments made in Crypto Currencies like Bitcoin for their cars and other accesories. But, a lot can change in three months. Now, the CEO says that Tesla will not accept payments made in Crypto Currencies as hey found that Crypto Mining relies heavily on Fossil fuels. An argument came up that 75% of all Crypto Mining uses renewable Energy. Also, notable was that Renewable energy was only used in remote places in China where renewable energy is available plentily. So, Tesla will not accept Crypto Currency payments anymore.

Binance under investigation:

The world's largest Crypto Currency exchange, Binance, is now officially under investigation by the US Department of Justice and the IRS following a report last year that accused Binance for laundering money for criminals. This has created a lot of tension among the Crypto Mining community, and it seems that the future of the Crypto Mining Industry will depend on the findings and decisions of the US Depatment of Justice and the IRS.

Apple vs EPIC - the fight is no more Epic:

If you're not up to date on the lawsuit between Apple and EPIC, you can read more here. This week, a trial was again held in which the Judge worked out a compromise that the developers can make the purchases available on their website for a cheaper price, but that would come at a cost of not having the integration of Apple Pay. Apple Pay users can still buy the sales in-app, but at a higher cost, the difference of which would go directly to Apple. The two companies haven't come to a conclusion yet, but it is difficult to see the poor Judge wrap their heads around this, a this is a very sensitive issue. In addition, many other gaming focused companies such as Sony, Nintendo, Roblox and Spotify are requesting that the documents made public as part of the trial be resealed, to make sure that they dot leak confidential information from those companies. Whatever is supposed to happen will happen. But untill then, who profits from 30% of the smartphone gaming market still stands to be a mystery.

New Graphics Cards = More Scalpers:

MSI recently posted a reference card to the RTX 3080 Ti briefly before taking it down alongside a reference PCB to an RTX 3050 Ti in the EEC filings. It is speculated that these will be new GPUs from Nvidia's RTX 30 series lineup. But with the state of the current Shortage of chips(learn more here), all a new graphics card will launch will do is enable more scalpers. Good luck getting one at even twice MSRP, let alone at MSRP if they launch, which they might not do this year, given the current situation.

That's not all! There have also been leaks of specifications for AMDs unreleased RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT which will reportedly feature the Navi 23 GPU architechture and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. There have also been leaks for the budgeteer Navi 24 GPUs under the codename Beige Goby in the means of Linux driver open sourcing. As always, we will have to wait and see how many of these new Graphics Cards TSMC can make in an effort to disable scalpers. This time it will be even harder considering there are already thousands of scalpers waiting in line with bots to get their hands on one of these new cards, and flip them up on eBay for twice the price.

TSMC is busy:

With the increased shortage of Semiconductor components, TSMC is considering building an additional Chip Factory in Arizona, US in addition to all the other foundries they have set up. These years have seen the most money pumped into chip production rather than delivering performance. It is a good thing that the people at TSMC care about the shortage. As always, wait to see what happens next.

Google is now friends with Spacex!

Spacex and google have now partnered up to install Starlink base stations in Google data centers. If you don't know what starlink is, you'll find more information here but in simple words, it is basically Satellite internet which will supposedly increase service to rural areas in the interior parts of the comtinent and allow Starlink users to integrate access ti google's services through starlink.

But Amazon is not a friend of Aukey:

Amazon has removed the vast majority of popular accessory maker, Aukey's products from the Amazon retail store. According to Amazon, the company was paying for fake positive reviews for their products. Though that may be true, people also speculate that Amazon would have done ths to boost sales on several Aukey counterparts under the Amazon basics brand. We'll have to see what Aukey has to say.

New phones and laptops!

A render of a new Pixel 6, Pixel 6 pro and an M2 macbook pro has been released. As far as the community goes, they are not super excited because these hardware are not set to launch any time soon. Please wait for the hardware launch! (And the Manufacturing queue).

Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro Render

Ryzen 5000 refresh:

AMD's Ryzen 5000 CPUs are already at the top in desktop performance. But, AMD has supposedly given an insight into the Ryzen 5000 refresh which is about expanded manufacturing techniques and not increasing performance, even though some of them claim to be running at 5 GHz. AMD knows that production is the main hurdle that is holding back desktop performance and not speed. Hence, AMD is investing into expanded manufacturing techniques for their Ryzen 5000 CPUs to improve their availability.

That's it for this week folks! Will see you soon with yet another post on Tech News or maybe something else! Untill then stay tuned.
